1.
The Morgan Street Garage is the first to be completed of the
"Six Pillars of Progress" in the revitalization of downtown
Hartford.
2.
Construction began in the fall of 2000 on the site of the old G.
Fox parking garage.
3. The construction cost was $25.9 million. The garage was financed
by a $4 million dollar grant from CCEDA, $6.5 million from the State
of CT and $15.4 from the sale of City of Hartford Parking System
Revenue Bonds.
4.
The general contractor for the garage was C.R. Klewin of Norwich,
CT, and the building was designed by Amenta/Emma Architects of Hartford.
5.
The building is owned by the City of Hartford and is managed by
the Hartford Parking Authority (HPA).
6.
The building used 745,000 square feet of pre-cast reinforced concrete
sections that were delivered and then assembled on site. The bottom
of the lowest footing is 16 feet below grade level.
7.
Approximately 22,300 sq. ft. of glass was used to provide security
and a great view of Hartford for the parking public when they use
one of the five elevators or the stairway. Automated security systems
are also featured in the garage.
8.
The capacity of the garage is 2,290 vehicles with ten lanes of ingress
and egress on eight levels for both monthly and hourly parking.
9.
Open 24 hours a day, the garage is a safe and affordable place to
park downtown. HPA has contracted with Central Parking System,
Inc. to provide staffing and maintenance
duties inside the Morgan Street Garage. The Hartford
Parking Authority has created
a partnership with the trusted Hartford Guides to offer help in
locating a parker's vehicle, escort service to a car, free jump-starts
and flat tire or lockout assistance.
10.
The garage features 13,000 square feet of retail space along Market
Street currently leased.
11.
The State's investment in the Morgan Street Garage includes the
acquisition of 500 spaces for use by students of the new Capital
Community College campus in the nearby 960 Main St., the old G.Fox
Building.
